Play with a team

Playing with a team adds to the fun and fastens your speed of learning valorant. You can form a team from your closest allies or get an online community of like-minded people with whom you can communicate through live chats or microphones.

Talking to them before the match helps create strategies you will use at each phase in the game, such as the game movements, locations to drop items, and the enemy locations.

Communication after the match is also helpful since you get to analyze the game’s outcome, know the strategies that worked, those that failed, and how to improve on your next round. Good teamwork prevents the occurrence of loopholes that would otherwise give victory to the enemies.

Maximize time between rounds

Winning in one round doesn’t grant you a celebration just yet. Save that time and search for the best equipment and agents to use in your next game to maximize your chances of winning.

Know your agents and their strengths

One of the best ways of improving your valorant score is by learning the playing characters and mastering their abilities. There currently are nineteen agents, each having either of the four powers: controller, initiator, duelist, and sentinel.

With their unique strengths, capitalizing on them will give you a competitive advantage over the opponents.

Assume the opponent is having a good time

Though the enemy might appear to be getting the most shots and having a better game, there is still much you can do to save the day. Look up your strategies, consult with your teammates, or instead unlock better agents in the next round.

Over rotate

Frequent over-rotating during a match exposes the bombsite to the enemy and grants them an opportunity to strike. Many rounds are also lost when rotations are made in full awareness of the enemy, as they get a chance to rotate faster.

Forget activating your microphone

Passing inaccurate and late information to the rest of the members can be your undoing. To prevent this, keep the mic on throughout the game.

If you’ve been unable to raise a deposit to get onto the property ladder, here’s everything you need to know about 100% mortgages in 2022.

What Are 100% Mortgages?

A 100% mortgage refers to a loan for the entire cost of the property you’re buying which means you’ll not have to put up any deposit. You’ll also find such loans being referred to as 100% loan to value (LTV) mortgages or no deposit mortgages.

If the property costs £200,000, a 100% mortgage would mean you’re borrowing the full £200,000 from the lender. 100% mortgages can appeal to first-time buyers who find it challenging to save, but they’re risky and very rare in the current market.

How Do 100% Mortgages Work?

All mortgages have ratios of loan to value (LTV) that reflect the percentage of the property value you’re borrowing. 100% mortgages mean you’re borrowing for the entire property value and now come with far stricter conditions than they did previously.

Following the financial crisis in 2008, lenders were forced to pay more attention to every borrower’s entire financial situation and not just how much they earn.

If you’re qualified, you’ll make monthly repayments over an agreed term, but you’ll likely pay higher interest rates because you have no equity in the home. You can get lower LTV and better deals from lenders with more equity.

Types Of 100% Mortgages

Currently, most 100% mortgages in the market are guarantor mortgages. These come in different forms, but all rely on you having a friend or family member whose ready and capable of helping you out.

You’ll still legally own the property, but the guarantor provides the financial backing needed to reduce the risk for the lender and secure the deal. The guarantor bears responsibility for repaying the mortgage if you can’t pay it yourself.

Bridging Finance

If you are in the market for finance to fund a self-build project or to bridge the gap between the development and sale of a new construction, then it’s not a 100% mortgage you are looking for.

Instead, you will be looking at bridging finance, also referred to as construction finance.

Deposit Mortgages

A trusted friend or family member offers their savings or property as security for a 100% mortgage in deposit mortgages. Where savings are used security, your friend or family member deposits cash in a special savings account, and the money is held as security against the 100% mortgage.

Such deposits usually range between 10% and 20% of the property’s value. The guarantor earns interest on their savings during the loan period, but the rate is usually not as competitive as what is found in a regular savings account.

The cash deposited is usually held until:

The mortgage balance falls below a certain percentage of the property value, usually 75% or 80%.
You repay the entire loan in full.
A stipulated number of years have passed, provided you’ve made your mortgage repayments on time.

Instead of a savings deposit, your guarantor can provide their property as collateral or security for a 100% mortgage. It involves having a charge over their home, usually between 20% and 25% of the value of the property you’re buying, as security against the mortgage.

Family Offset Mortgage

Family offset mortgages work in a similar way to deposit mortgages. However, unlike deposit mortgages, your guarantor will not earn any interest on the savings used as security for the 100% mortgage.

The advantage is that you’ll get reduced monthly repayments for the 100% mortgage. The interest you’ll pay is based on the difference between the mortgage’s total value and the amount of savings held in the account, meaning you pay less interest than if the savings weren’t there.

Family Link Mortgage

Lenders like the Post Office offer family link mortgages, and they’re similar to 100% mortgages because you’re not required to put down any deposit. Such deals work by combining a 90% mortgage with a 10% loan usually raised in the form of a mortgage against your guarantor’s home. The family member who acts as the guarantor must be mortgage-free to qualify.

You may find other lenders offering similar products under different names. To get the best deal and expert advice on the entire market, it’s wise to consult a whole-of-market mortgage adviser or broker with access to all the available deals.

The Risk Of A Drop In House Value

When considering a 100% mortgage, you need to think about the risk of falling into negative equity. The value of your property is likely to change with economic changes over time.

The biggest risk of a 100% mortgage is finding yourself in negative equity where you owe the lender more than what the property is currently worth. For example, if you use a 100% mortgage to purchase a property worth £150,000 but the property value drops to £100,000, you’ll still owe the lender £150,000 minus anything you’ve already paid off.

Such drops in value can create problems if you wish to move or remortgage. You may find yourself trapped in the original mortgage deal involving high rates unless you can find more money to cover the shortfall.

The risk of negative equity becomes less of a concern as you pay off more of your mortgage and own more equity in the property. However, the risk is significant in the first few years of a 100% mortgage.

Is A 100% Mortgage Guaranteed In 2022?

You can be eligible for a 100% mortgage whether you’re a first-time buyer, a home mover, or a homeowner, but the number of deals available has become very limited.

Therefore, even with a friend or family member who can act as your guarantor, there’s no guarantee that you’ll get a 100% mortgage. Most mortgage lenders will scrutinise your finances and other requirements to determine if you can genuinely afford to repay each month.

Your chances of approval for a 100% mortgage are diminished if you have a bad or poor credit score or if you’re already committed to paying back other debts.

Final Thoughts

Although 100% mortgages are less common, you can still find them, especially with the help of a mortgage broker or adviser. They often come with the catch of requiring a guarantor who can afford repayments if you fail to keep up. Keep in mind the risks involved, including falling into negative equity and the guarantor losing their savings or home if the loan defaults.

Speeding continues to cause accidents in Sydney

An accident occurred on January 22 in Sydney, Australia. In the investigation into the accident, a man was blamed for the accident because he was speeding.

Amazon Web Services outage takes down Netflix and Disney Plus as well as a host of other sites and has caused a number of delivery delays.

The cloud service – which provides on-demand computing platforms to individuals and businesses – went down across in various North American locations due to a “an impairment of several network devices.”

A notice posted on the website read: “The root cause of this issue is an impairment of several network devices in the US-EAST-1 Region. These devices are receiving more traffic than they are able to process, which is leading to elevated latency and packet loss for the traffic traversing these are seeing improvement in availability across most AWS services. We continue to work toward full recovery for all impacted AWS Services and API operations.”

The web service allows deliveries from the online megastore to take place when organised over a network, which caused several delays across the region when workers were unable to organise courier logistics.

Amazon spokesman Richard Rocha told The Washington Post that while some issues “had been resolved”, the company was “[still] working towards full recovery across services.”

Further issues were caused by the network for video doorbell company Ring, which carries Amazon’s signature home security product.

In a statement on their website, Ring said: “We have identified an issue that may cause failures throughout the app such as settings changes not saving and live videos (dings, motions, live views) to fail to connect.”

You may be shocked to learn that this fun and whimsical dessert is actually named after the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. Anna was a superstar when she toured both New Zealand and Australia in the 1920s. There are rumours of a chef in Wellington having created the dessert after she visited on her only tour there in 1926.

The Pavlova remains a familiar favourite to this day and we certainly know why!

Both consist of egg white desserts, and are made quite similarly. The key difference is that a meringue is crispy and dry throughout, whereas the pavlova is crispy on the outside, but fluffy, soft and marshmallow-like on the inside.

There is something special about a pavlova and accompanied by the fresh fruit it does not only taste great it also looks like a piece of art!

Ingredients

For the meringue
4 egg whites
250 g caster sugar
1 tsp white wine vinegar
1 tsp cornflour
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the topping
500 g strawberries, hulled and halved
200 g redcurrants, stalks removed
3 tbsp icing sugar
350 ml double cream

Directions

Heat oven to 150C/130C fan/gas 2.
Using a pencil, mark out the circumference of a dinner plate on baking parchment.
Whisk 4 egg whites with a hand mixer until they form stiff peaks, then whisk in 250g caster sugar, 1 tbsp at a time, until the meringue looks glossy.
Whisk in 1 tsp white wine vinegar, 1 tsp cornflour and 1 tsp vanilla extract.
Spread the meringue inside the circle, creating a crater by making the sides a little higher than the middle.
Bake for 1 hr, then turn off the heat and let the Pavlova cool completely inside the oven.
When the meringue is cool, chop 100g of the hulled strawberries. Mix them with 100g of the redcurrants and 2 tbsp icing sugar.
Place in a food processor, blitz until smooth, then push the fruit mixture through a sieve.
Whip 350ml double cream with the remaining 1 tbsp icing sugar and spread it over the meringue. Put the remaining 400g hulled and halved strawberries and 100g redcurrants on the cream and finally pour the sauce over the whole lot.

Harsher penalties for drinking drivers in Queensland

Have fun, but don’t drink and drive says new Queensland laws. Drinking drivers will be facing harsher penalties

Anyone who is caught and convicted of drink driving, no matter what the blood/breath alcohol concentration (BAC), will have to complete an education course. In addition, the existing Alcohol Ignition Interlock Program has been strengthened and expanded to apply to more offenders.

Drink driving remains one of the biggest contributors to death and injury on our roads, representing more than 20% of all lives lost. Last year, 62 people lost their lives and a further 783 were hospitalised with serious injuries from drink driving – a significant increase over the previous year. The majority of these casualties occurred in crashes where there was a driver/rider with a BAC of 0.10 or higher, an important reason why these offenders will now be required to enter the interlock program.

The reforms are designed to help people separate drinking from driving.

Alcohol Ignition Interlock Program

The program now includes mid-range drink drivers (those with a blood/breath alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.10-0.149) in addition to repeat offenders and high risk/high-range (BAC 0.15 and over) drink drivers.
Participants must have an alcohol ignition interlock fitted to any vehicle(s) they drive. This includes work vehicles in cases where a participant has been granted a work licence. There are no exemptions for employment.
The program is now performance-based meaning if a driver fails interlock breath samples or breaches other conditions, such as getting regular interlock services and not tampering with the interlock, their time in the program will be extended.
The sit-out period (time they are not allowed to drive if they choose not to fit an interlock) increases from 2 years to 5 years.
The cost associated with relicensing and getting an interlock fitted and serviced is, on average, $3,000 for the first 12 months.

Education courses

All drinking drivers who commit and are convicted of a drink driving offence will be required to complete an online early-intervention course called Plan.Drive.Survive. Foundations, in order to get relicensed.
All repeat drink driving offenders will be required to complete a face-to-face, multi-session course – Plan.Drive.Survive. Comprehensive – as a condition of completing the Alcohol Ignition Interlock Program.

Scientists secure €1 million grant to develop synthetic tendon and ligament implants

Torn ligaments and tendons are the bane of athletes and runners; they are difficult to heal and often require months or years of rehab. Currently, the only fix for severe tears is to remove soft tissues from another part of the patient’s body, or a cadaver, and use them to repair a knee or ankle. This is costly and inefficient, but the medical field has yet to come up with a better solution.

The international group, comprising scientists from Queen’s University Belfast, Trinity College Dublin and Penn State University with expertise in nanoscience, developmental biology and biomedical engineering, hopes to change that after securing the funding to support a four-year project.

The research is funded by the National Science Foundation (USA), Science Foundation Ireland and the Department for the Economy (Northern Ireland).

The group will develop genetically engineered soft tissues modeled on how tendons develop in the embryo, and attempt to improve the production of artificial tendon and ligament replacements by replicating the molecular events that drive embryonic tendon development using nanoparticle delivery and mechanical stimulation of cells grown as “mini tendons” in culture.

“Research shows that tendon cells are sensitive to movement and stimulation,” said co-principal investigator Spencer Szczesny, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Penn State University. “We will determine if the muscle stimulation impacts cell behaviour and how they form the tissue around them. Our hypothesis is that muscle activity early on stimulates tendon and ligament cells to grip onto collagen instead of neighboring cells, forming a connection to collagen fibres, which is critical to forming a healthy tendon.”

If that hypothesis proves true, Professor Szczesny will apply mechanical stimulation to cells when creating a tendon implant in the second phase of the project, mimicking what is happening in an egg or a human womb.

In another key part of the project, the researchers will also use nanoparticles to influence tendon growth, essentially “telling” cells to turn certain genes on or off; these genes will have been discovered from the embryonic study.

Co-principal investigator Professor Helen McCarthy, from the School of Pharmacy at Queen’s University Belfast, is an expert in nanomaterial drug delivery. She will lead the nanoparticle design, which should mimic the embryonic process by pushing stem cells to release neighbouring cells and bind instead to collagen fibres.

Professor Paula Murphy from Trinity College Dublin and co-principal investigator, added: “This project is truly interdisciplinary, integrating international expertise in biomechanics, mechanobiology, developmental biology and materials science. We are particularly enthusiastic to bring a developmental perspective to understanding tendon biomechanics and to addressing the critical barriers that have – to date – prevented the development of functional load-bearing tendon and ligament replacements.”

The City Hall in Victoria Lights Up in Pink in Support of Healthcare Workers

It’s been a really tough time for everyone during this pandemic and with the lockdown extended again, many people are feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. As we all try to make it through the lockdown health workers are having to work over time to cope with their workload. This has lead to Victoria coming up with some creative ideas on how to show support to those who have not had the time to rest.

In an effort to support these health workers and show them our support and appreciation, the city of Victoria have decided to light up their city hall this week in pink in honour of their hard work and dedication. An inspirational campaign that we hope will catch on around the country. The lights will remain pink all this week in support.

Healthcare workers have been working tirelessly since March 2020 and they deserve everyone’s respect and support. Though the lockdown remains in place until the 15th of October, these healthcare workers remain on the forefront of the pandemic.

Gold or Silver? Which is the UK’s Favourite Metal?

The gold versus silver debate has always been prevalent in the jewellery industry, with most people tending to opt for one metal over the other. Both silver and gold jewellery can add the final finishing touches to any outfit, and deciding whether it’s a silver or gold moment can be a small yet difficult decision to make. As the silver and gold jewellery markets continue to grow, both are providing an increasingly stunning array of jewellery pieces that people across the world desire.

So, what is the UK opting for when it comes to jewellery? Using Google search data collected between April 2020 and March 2021, we take a look at what terms the UK is searching for the most and least when it comes to silver and gold jewellery preferences.

REVEALED: The UK’s most searched for jewellery items

Data reveals there is a tie between the second most adored jewellery items, with several terms accounting for high average monthly search volumes of 40,500. These terms include ‘gold chains for men’, ‘gold earrings’, ‘gold hoop earrings’, ‘gold necklaces’, ‘gold rings’, ‘silver chains’, and ‘silver chains for men.’

Chains and necklaces

As we can see from the data, everyone’s after a timeless chain to add to their jewellery collection. And in terms of gold versus silver, gold takes the lead. Gold chains have been bang on trend this year; they feature heavily in Cosmopolitan’s must-have jewellery trends. So, it’s no surprise that they’re racing ahead of the competition. Silver chains aren’t far behind, with an impressive average monthly search volume of 40,500, but there’s something about the timeless gold chain that you just can’t beat. The gold chain trend isn’t limited to certain parts of the UK either. In fact, ‘gold chains’ had the highest or joint highest search volumes in every region except for the South West, where they were pipped at the post by ‘gold hoop earrings’ which had 6,600 searches.

Earrings

Next up, we have earrings. In this category, gold prevailed again, with ‘gold earrings’ and ‘gold hoop earrings’ running away with the competition. A variation of ‘gold earrings’ appeared in the top five most searched for jewellery terms in every UK region, showing that we really can’t get enough! Although silver earrings didn’t prove quite so popular, it looks like our interest in them is still growing. In Northern Ireland, the term ‘silver earrings for women’ saw a growth of 743 per cent and the same term grew by 700 per cent in the South West.

Wedding rings and engagement rings

Although neither wedding rings nor engagement rings featured in the top ten jewellery searches, they’re both major players in the gold versus silver debate. After all, with most weddings having been cancelled or postponed over the course of 2020 and 2021, it’s no real surprise that wedding rings weren’t searched for quite as often (for example, ‘gold wedding rings for women’ accounted for just 1,300 average monthly searches). Despite this, the searches are bound to be back with a bang soon enough when the remaining restrictions lift, and big weddings are back on the cards.

Although it was a close call for both wedding and engagement ring, gold proved to be the overall winner yet again. The wedding ring-related term with the greatest interest was ‘gold wedding rings’ with 5,400 average monthly searches. ‘Silver wedding rings’ came in at a close second with 3,600 searches. Wedding ring popularity also varied between men and women. In most regions ‘gold wedding rings for women’ was among the searches with the highest growth, but in Yorkshire and the South West, ‘silver wedding rings for men’ saw bigger surges of interest.

As to be expected, engagement rings have been searched for a lot in recent months, and in this category, there is a clear winner in the debate. Gold engagement rings reign supreme, with 12,100 average monthly searches compared to only 4,400 for ‘silver engagement rings.’ There is something so timeless and magical about a classic yellow gold engagement ring, and this traditional style is still proving more popular than the more modern looking silver alternative.

Men’s jewellery

Just when we thought gold had it in the bag across the board, we come to men’s jewellery. In the battle between the two mighty metals, it looks like we have ourselves a draw. Both gold and silver chains for men proved extremely popular (with 40,500 average monthly searches each) while gold and silver rings for men were also tied in popularity (both with 27,100 average monthly searches). It seems we may have solved the gold versus silver debate in terms of women’s jewellery, but men across the UK seem to love both of these precious metals equally.

Over the last few months, we can see some clear jewellery trends. Not only can we now reveal that gold is the nation’s favourite, but we can also see which jewellery styles have grown in popularity and which have been forgotten by the public. Anklets, for example, saw the biggest decline in searches (-19 per cent for gold anklets and -33 per cent for silver anklets). However, with sunny holidays back on the cards, this classic summer jewellery style might see a resurgence soon enough. What we do know, however, is that if you want to be on trend this summer, stock up on glorious gold!

London Irish declares intention to launch top-flight women’s team

London Irish Rugby Football Club has declared its intention to launch a team to enter the top-flight of the women’s game.

Preparations are underway with a view to formally applying for a place in the Allianz Premier 15’s for the next intake of teams, due in 2023.

The decision to add an elite tier of women’s rugby at the club builds on and supports the vision for the women’s game at London Irish.

With participation in the women’s game at an all-time high, the decision to introduce a women’s team is a natural next step for London Irish.

The Club recognises the growth of the women’s game worldwide and closer to home in the UK – and the desire to introduce a Premier 15’s side that will provide a dual pathway for elite players to progress on both domestic and international stages.

Nick Phipps has put pen to paper on a contract extension with London Irish.

The Australian scrumhalf – who joined the club ahead of the 2019/20 season – has agreed a new deal to extend his stay with the Exiles.

The 32 year-old, who has over 70 caps for the Wallabies to his name, has made 39 appearances for the Exiles to date – and he’s excited about what the future holds for London Irish over the coming years.

“I’m chuffed to bits to agree a new deal,” Nick Phipps said.

“This is a really special club and as a family we’re really enjoying our time in London, so there’s nowhere I’d rather be, it was a no-brainer to extend my stay.

“I want to make special memories here. We’ve got a great bunch of boys, who love playing for this club; the coaching staff are great to work with on a daily basis – and we really feel we’re on an upward trajectory.

Curtis Rona has become the latest London Irish star to commit his future to the club.

Curtis Rona, who made history by becoming the first try-scorer at our new home at the Brentford Community Stadium earlier this season, has penned a long-term contract extension with the club.

The Australian centre has made quite an impact in his two years with the club, scoring nine tries in his 45 appearances to date – but he feels the best is yet to come!

“I’m really stoked to be here for another few years,” Curtis Rona said.

London Irish go down to Newcastle Falcons in high-scoring affair

London Irish fell to a 52-27 loss at the hands of Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park in their Round 18 Gallagher Premiership match on Saturday.

The opening few minutes saw London Irish enjoy plenty of time on the ball. The Exiles went through numerous attacking phases in the Newcastle half, but a turnover penalty from Mark Wilson relieved the early pressure for the hosts.

The Irish pack continued with their strong start, giving the Exiles an attacking platform from a scrum penalty. From the resulting field position, the backs went through a move orchestrated straight from the training ground, releasing Tom Parton down the wing. Parton brushed off a tackle to slide over the try line and give Irish an early 0-5 lead.

The Exiles went in search of their second try, but five metres out, Agustin Creevy was penalised for holding on and the Falcons cleared their lines.

It was Newcastle next to impact the scoreboard. A quick tap from a penalty eventually led to George McGuigan taking a crash ball to force his over the try line. Brett Connon added the extras and Newcastle took a 7-5 lead with 26 minutes on the clock.

On the half hour mark, Newcastle went over for their second try of the match. Sean Robinson was dragged over the Exiles’ tryline by his pack and, with Connon’s conversion, extended the Falcons’ lead to 14-5.

Five minutes later, Newcastle didn’t roll away from a tackle and subsequently gave Paddy Jackson a shot at goal. Jackson’s attempt sailed through the uprights and the hosts’ lead was cut to 14-8.

With the clock in red, Irish had the last say of the first half. A lovely-weighted grubber from Paddy Jackson sat up perfectly for Ben Loader who duly dotted down in the corner. Jackson converted from the touchline to put Irish ahead at the break.

Newcastle came out of the blocks flying after the restart. Scrum-half Louis Schreuder taking a good offload to go over under the posts. Connon added the simple conversion, and the Falcons retook the lead, 21-15.

Just a minute later, Curtis Rona was shown a yellow card for a high tackle and London Irish were temporarily reduced to 14 men.

Irish were punished for missing touch from a penalty and Newcastle’s clearance kicked put the pressure back onto Irish. The hosts grabbed themselves a penalty from the kick chase, kicked to the corner and scored through McGuigan again. The conversion was successful, and the Falcons led 28-15.

Newcastle went over for their fifth through Tom Stevenson. The winger bumped off a tackle and scored in the corner. The extras were added, and their lead was extended to 35-15.

Irish, to their credit, came straight back at the hosts. Loader gathered the restart and, after building through the phases, Phil Cokanasiga slammed his way over. Jackson added the conversion and reduced the Falcons’ lead to 35-22.

Just before the hour mark, Connon added three points from the kick tee, moving the scoreboard to 38-22.

The entertaining, high scoring second half continued, this time Motu Matu’u going over for Irish’s bonus-point try. A well-worked lineout move ended with the hooker sliding over in the corner. Jackson’s conversion from the whitewash hit the post and came backout, and the score was 38-27.

Keeping in the end-to-end tradition of the match, Tom Penny was next to touchdown. A series of offloads ended with the full-back hopping over a ruck to score. The conversion was successful, and the hosts moved to a 45-27 advantage.

With three minutes to go, Robinson went over for his second. A close-range dive over the line and the conversion pushed Newcastle over the 50 points mark.

Those were the last points of the contest, with Newcastle running out 52-27 winners.

This includes the restrooms, the air conditioning –as poisonous gas can be exposed-, the service area –the tiles can lead to accidents when wet- and all other services that can be dangerous if not maintained correctly. While proving the negligence and negotiating with the insured, you would need a strong representative as your rights should be defended at all costs. Hiring a lawyer would be a wise choice among all options. Accidents such as food poisoning or taking damage due to a slip and fall accident can lead to critical health conditions. The victim’s loss should be compensated to prevent any financial difficulty that can result from the incapacity of the victim.

What is handyman insurance?

Handyman work involves dangerous tools and working in unfamiliar locations, so even the most careful and experienced handyman might find themselves on the wrong end of an accident. Without the right handyman insurance, they could face a lawsuit and have to pay solicitor costs and compensation payments or replace stolen tools using their own money.

Insurance isn’t required by law for a handyman, but it makes good business sense to protect yourself against certain risks. And your customers might prefer working with a handyman that is properly protected, as this protects the customer as well. Some customers might even ask to see your certificate of insurance as proof that you’re covered. It’s not uncommon.

Insurance for handyman services

There are at least 6 types of insurance to consider if you provide handyman services:

Public liability insurance. Covers personal injury and property damage claims made by third parties that your business was negligent.
Tool and equipment insurance. Covers your tools and equipment if they are stolen or damaged in a covered event like a fire. Won’t cover wear and tear or defects.
Personal accident cover. Provides funding to help replace lost income if you’re injured on the job and can’t work. Can provide both short-term covers to provide a weekly or monthly benefit and lump-sum payments for more serious injuries.
Legal expenses cover. In case you need legal assistance to pursue an unpaid debt, have a contract dispute, or are subject to an HMRC tax enquiry, among other things.
Employers’ liability insurance. If you hire any workers, employers’ liability insurance is required by law in almost all cases, even if you pay them in cash or they work part-time.
Commercial vehicle insurance. Regular social, domestic & pleasure, and commuting vehicle insurance won’t protect a handyman’s work vehicle. By nature, a handyman drives to multiple places of work and probably uses a special van, which may even be kitted out to store tools in a certain way. In most cases, a handyman will probably want commercial vehicle insurance to cover the work-related driving and the tools inside. Although if a handyman only wanted to cover their private car for work-related driving and not any tools, it might suffice to add ‘business use’ to their car insurance. Ask your provider to learn more.

While there might be other types of cover a handyman wants to consider as well, these are the most common types of cover. Each handyman business must assess the risks they face, and consider what types of protection they want.

Handyman public liability

The backbone of a handyman insurance package is public liability, which covers personal injury or property damage claims made by a third party. For example, if a customer trips on your toolbox and falls, injuring themselves, they could take legal action saying you were negligent in leaving your tools out. Or if while you’re carrying a ladder up a narrow staircase you accidentally damage a glass-framed painting hung on the wall, and the customer sues for the cost to repair the valuable painting.

Handyman public liability covers both the legal costs to defend against a claim as well as any compensation you’re found liable to pay the harmed party. It’ll even cover frivolous claims, for which you are not responsible or where you were not negligent, but someone tries to sue you anyway.

Handyman public liability insurance cost

Public liability insurance for a handyman costs start from around £75 a year, but cheaper policies can be found if you look around. That level of premium can easily buy you £2 million of public liability insurance if you’re working as a sole trader. Of course, if you want a higher limit of insurance, you’ll pay a higher insurance rate. On the bright side, adding to your coverage limit is usually not as expensive as you might think. It’s usually the initial cover that costs the most.

Also, if your handyman business is structured as a partnership or a limited company, your public liability insurance costs might rise. And prices might also rise as your business grows and your turnover increases. With a larger business, there are simply more people who could be negligent and more opportunities for an accident, and therefore a claim.

If handyman insurance seems expensive to you, consider the potential cost of a claim – both the legal costs and the compensation payments. Without insurance, a handyman would need to cover these costs themselves, which is a financial burden that most people and small businesses do not want to bear or could not without facing financial ruin.

What is email marketing and why to use it for your business

What is email marketing?

Email marketing is a general term that applies to all strategies that you use to promote your business with emails.

Depending on your current needs and strategies, email marketing can perform serve different purposes:

Educate about your products;
Raise brand awareness and recognition;

Video conferencing: Zoom’s profits zoom skywards

Clearly there is nothing like a pandemic to get your share price moving. For most companies it has been a rapid downward movement, but for video conferencing platform Zoom it has been a different matter altogether.

Its business growth, share price and profits have zoomed into the stratosphere as the world’s lockdowns and work-from-home realities make online conferencing a vital everyday requirement for hundreds of millions of people.

Performance is nothing short of stellar

The company, formally known as Zoom Video Communications, announced its 2020 second-quarter earnings on Monday to much fanfare from the stock markets and market analysts.

Unsurprisingly, its performance has been nothing short of stellar and, in simple terms, the company made as much money in the second quarter as it did in the entire 2019.

Shares in Zoom, which are already up around 400% this year, went up by a further 9% and hit a new record high on Monday as investors looked for a slice of the action in the wake of the announcement of the second-quarter figures.

Security woes have not deterred customers

Although there have been well-publicised around the security of the Zoom – demonstrated on numerous occasions by hacking incidents at high-profile meetings and online conferences – it appears not to have damaged the company’s fortunes.

These incidents have become known as ‘Zoom bombing’ and the company has released a number of updates aimed at enhancing security.

Revenue grew 355% on an annualized basis in the second quarter, which ended on July 31. This is on top of revenue that grew 169% in the first quarter of 2020.

Revenue even better than optimistic predictions

In US dollar terms, revenue was US$663.5-million, which is far better than the US$500.5-million predicted by analysts, who were already optimistic in their forecasts.

Income was almost US$186-million, versus just US$5.5-million in the same quarter a year ago.

Looking at customer numbers, Zoom averaged 148.4-million users, which is a staggering 4 700% increase year-on-year.

Shipping your car to South Africa: What happens when you get there

There are customs requirements and specific documents that are required before you ship your vehicle as well as when your vehicle arrives at its destination.

Shipping your car into South Africa

Before you leave the UK, there are several strict regulations that you need to be aware of. Here is a summary of the documents you will need to import any vehicles into South Africa and the procedures required to obtain these import papers.

Documents required for shipping

A copy of the photo page of your passport
A copy of the vehicles licence document (the V5)
A copy of the Letter of Authority
A copy of the Import Permit

Arriving in South Africa

Following departure from the UK, the shipping company will provide you with a copy of the Bill of Lading covering shipment of your vehicle. This document proves that your vehicle has left the United Kingdom. In addition to a copy of shipping documentation, your shipping agent will also re-confirm anticipated arrival details for the car in South Africa and contact details for the receiving agent at the port.

Ahead of time, agents will be in contact with you in South Africa before the ship is due to arrive. This will allow you to begin making arrangements to prepare for the completion of local arrival and customs clearance and import formalities.

Duty and tax for returning South African residents

Returning South African residents or immigrants changing their place of permanent residence to South Africa may import one motor vehicle free of duty and are also granted exemption from VAT. On arrival, South African customs will require you to make a declaration to apply for exemption from duty and VAT.

To be eligible to import your personal motor vehicle into South Africa under exemption from duty and VAT you must:

Be the registered owner of the vehicle for a period of no less than 12 months
Be changing your permanent residency to South Africa
On importation you must not sell, hire, exchange or otherwise dispose of the vehicle for a period of at least two years

For vehicles or persons that do not qualify for exemption, the rate of duty payable is calculated based on the value of the vehicle. Further information on import duty and VAT in South Africa can be found on the South African Revenue Service website.

Registration of your vehicle

After shipping, and once your vehicle has been cleared through customs and any duty and tax levied have been paid to the South African Revenue Service, you will be issued with a Customs Release Notification form. Be aware that in order for your car to be registered for use on South African roads it must be registered at a vehicle licensing office and must pass a road worthiness test.

To register your vehicle you will be required to complete the application for motor vehicle licence form ALV. You will need to present it to a vehicle licencing office together with the Customs Release Notification form.

A registered testing centre will complete a road worthiness test and issue you with a road worthy certificate. If your vehicle fails you will typically be entitled to one free re-test provided that any work needed is completed and your vehicle can be re-tested within 14 days. Personal circumstances also often determine where you decide to live – people with children choose to live somewhere where their children’s safety and future outweighs their need to stay in the country they were born.

If you find yourself in any of these categories and are considering a move abroad, there are some important questions you should ask yourself before you do so.

Why are we moving? Is immigration for us?

Okay, that is technically two questions, but they need to be considered together. Decide as a couple or as a family if immigration is something you really want to do. Consider other options such as changing cities before you decide to move abroad. Because of the stressful nature of relocating, it is definitely worthwhile considering that immigrating is not for everybody. Speak to friends who have done it, and get advice from people you respect.

Think about why you want to move. If the reasons carry weight and make you feel excited about the future, then immigration is probably something you should consider. If you’ve been offered a job or have exciting work prospects abroad, the decision has largely been taken from you.

Where will we live?

In the short term, it may be worthwhile investigating getting your parents over to Australia on a visitor visa. There are three- six- and twelve-month visitor visas available.

Making their first visit more short-term will enable them to see if they like the country before they go to the trouble of deciding to settle there. It will also allow your parents to find areas that best suit their lifestyle needs.

Permanent residence for parents of children in Australia

The only visa that will give a parent or parents permanent residence is the Contributory Parent Visa.

The Contributory Parent Visa

The requirements for this visa are:
• Half or more than half of the applicant’s children are resident in Australia as citizens or permanent residents
• The sponsoring child is ‘settled’ in Australia

The 870 – Sponsored Parent Visa

This recently-added visa will require adequate health insurance and will allow up to a maximum of ten years of cumulative stay permitted (3+3 or 5+5 years).

The parent or parents must leave Australia for 90 consecutive days before making the second application. People are not allowed to work on this visa.

The fine print

The parent must be sponsored by their child who is an Australian citizen or a permanent resident who has been usually resident in Australia for four years. Only two parents can be sponsored at any one time. The sponsor must have a minimum household taxable income threshold of $83,454.80 per annum.

No balance of family test will be applied, and no sponsorship bond will be required. The sponsored parents will be required to maintain adequate health insurance for the duration of their stay in Australia. The sponsors will be required to pay in full any outstanding public health debts incurred by their parent.
