George Kambosos Jr hoping for shot at redemption after Devin Haney defeat

Home favourite Kambosos was on the receiving end of a boxing masterclass by Haney at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, who inflicted the first defeat of Kambosos’ career.

The bout went the distance and to the judges’ scorecard. Two of the judges marked the contest 116-112 to Haney, while the other judge awarded it 118-110 to Haney, who is more affectionately known as The Dream.

Although the spoils went to Haney, who joined an exclusive club of fighters who have unified a division, which includes legends such as Bernard Hopkins and Terence Crawford, for Kambosos, he will have to lick his wounds and go back to the drawing board.

Kambosos admitted Haney was more direct and potent with his jab after his loss, as he said: “I was sharp [at] points. I landed some very good shots. I hurt him a few times. I feel like every time I landed clean, he was hurt.

“So, he just fought his game off that jab. He just boxed off that jab and he did his holding. He did hold a lot.”

More intriguingly, Kambosos has even talked up the possibility of a rematch with Haney.

He added: “I’m going to change a few things and get him back later this year.

“I took the risk, not many wanted to fight him but I gave him a shot and I’m sure we will do it again.”

Boxing can be a cruel mistress for the loser and sometimes in the biggest fights, the margins can be very tight. Over the past few years, there have been some fabulous contests across all the divisions and from a betting perspective, boxing continues to soar. At many of the best boxing sportsbooks, there will be plenty of lines pre-fight as well as in-play for bettors to engage with, while some even offer odds boosts too which can see you scoop big winnings on a longer price.

Some of the top sites, such as Betway and Unibet will be very flexible when it comes to payment methods for deposits and withdrawals. If you enjoy online betting with PayPal, then Betway and Unibet will be good options for you to explore, as there will be minimal fees passed on, and both sites will normally be quick at processing withdrawal requests.

There will have been some tough lessons for Kambosos, who has been in the game for over 20 years, to take. Of course, it will be fascinating to see how he responds in the coming months and he will be desperate to prove that he’s still a top fighter and can snatch back the titles from Haney’s grasp.
